Dear Triathlete:

Yahoo, you did it! You made the commitment to yourself and to the 2017 Tri Greenville Triathlon & Duathlon. Tri Greenville is just over five weeks away so we thought that a note to update you with some spring information might be helpful.

Baldwin Lake has been ice-free for nearly 2 month now so we anticipate water temperatures to be higher than normal this year. We will begin posting water temperature updates on the TriGreenville facebook page beginning in May.

Now that the dry pavement has been revealed, it is time to get out and ride. Bike seats are not typically designed for comfort; start conditioning your posterior to become one with the seat. Before you get out, make sure that everything is working properly and that the seat is at the right height for you. Typically, the seat should be at your hip when you are standing next to it so that your leg is nearly straight at the bottom of your pedal stroke. Your feet should not be able to touch the ground with your rear still on the seat. The kind of bike you have does not matter so much as long as it in good mechanical condition. If you are not familiar enough to do your own bike maintenance it is a good idea to have a qualified person set you up for a good “once over” to make sure that you start out mechanically sound.

The warmer, drier weather is also much easier to get off the treadmill and outside for your run training. We encourage you to enjoy the Fred Meijer Flat River Trail for your training runs or even better, train on the actual Tri Greenville Run Course around Baldwin Lake. Although the streets are not closed, it is a very popular area for runners and walkers and offers a very beautiful training course.

Don’t forget to friend us on Facebook. We will be featuring some inspiring stories from several of our 2017 Tri Greenville participants. Keep an eye on your inbox, we will be sending weekly emails with important race day information starting in May as well. We want to make sure you get all the information you need to ensure you and your family have a good experience at our event.

Happy Tri-day,

Doug & Kris
